SKILLS
Cooking Class
For future chefs or those just interested in learning to cook simple meals. We will develop skills in planning, preparing meals, nutritional needs, health issues and kitchen safety. No class October 5, 2007 or May 5, 2008. All ages welcome. Tuesday: 5PM-6PM
Third Friday Parties (ages 13 and up)
If you haven’t come to one of these great parties in the past, you don’t know what you’re missing! Party themes are different every month. Usually held at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church on the southwest corner of Telegraph and Lone Pine Roads. Pre-registration is preferred. Information on upcoming parties is sent via email. Parties are held on the third Friday of the month from 6:30--9:00 PM.
September 2007 through July 2008 $15/each party
(If registered by the Tuesday before the party, the cost per party is $10)

Therapeutic Gardening
Introduction to gardening including selecting a site, site preparation, plant selection, planting and care. Class will be held at a local garden. Instructor Cathy Fresia. Tuesday: 7:00-8:00 PM.
Begins May 20, 2008 through August 5, 2008.
Teen Club (ages 13-18)
A socialization network where your teen can feel comfortable and safe enough to express teen concerns and learn various social, interpersonal, team-building and problem solving skills. We hope to increase self-esteem and self-awareness through the use of leisure and recreation activities. Held onsite and various community settings (a complete schedule will be handed out on the first night). This is a group class. Thursday: 7:00-8:00 PM.
Young Adult Club (ages 19-35)
This club addresses the needs of young adults and their questions of independence. The group is suited for students who are ready to learn to navigate and socialize with their peers on their own. Admittance must be approved by the Recreation Therapist. We will be meeting in different locations each week; coffee houses, restaurants, etc. Group members will be involved in various aspects of life/leisure planning for each session. The first meeting will be held at Panera Bread on the southwest corner of Coolidge and Maple Roads (a complete schedule will be created on the first night). Please note that each young adult will be responsible for their individual purchases each week and should budget accordingly as part of a money management skill. This is a group class. Tuesday: 7:00--8:30 PM.
Therapeutic Sports Recreation Programs
Adaptive Swim Program (Goldfish-3-8 years old)
One-on-one adaptive swim lessons designed as a beginner developmental swim program to aid in water adjustment, strength-building and skill. Held at the Birmingham YMCA. The program includes a family orientation with relationship building to promote fun on land and in the water among instructors, recreation therapists and participants. To register, call the Aquatics Director at the Birmingham YMCA at 248-646-9036 ext. 19. 1/2 hour Saturday: 9:00 or 9:30 AM.
Fall: September 22-December 15, 2007.
Winter: January 12-April 19, 2008
Spring: May 3-June 14, 2008
Bowling
Held at Hartfield Lanes, 3490 12 Mile Rd., Berkley. This is a group activity on Thursday from 4:00--6:00 PM.
Sports Spectacular
Soccer, Basketball, Softball, group games and more! The focus of this program will be to work on basic sports skills, motor skills, and socialization. Location to be determined.
Thursday: 5:30-6:30 PM.
Walking Group
This activity will be held at various sites; the first week will be at Boulan Park on Crooks Road in Troy. Outdoor walking is the goal. We will move to an inside site during inclement weather. A schedule will be handed out at the first meeting. Schedule to be determined.
Hockey
Junior Varsity Ice Hockey
This class teaches basic hockey skills – hockey stop, backward skating, stick and puck handling. Emphasis is on development of group interaction skills and teamwork. Sunday: 6:00-7:00 PM at the Birmingham Ice Arena, 2300 E. Lincoln.
07-08 Season--September 15 through March 22, 2008
New this year: you must sign up for the entire hockey season to participate. You may pay in two installments.

Varsity Ice Hockey
Strengthens basic skating and hockey skills and overall knowledge of the game of hockey. Emphasis is on development of group interaction, skills, and teamwork. No Varsity Hockey on September 22, November 24 or December 29, 2007 due to tournaments. Saturday: 4:00--5:30PM at the Hazel Park Viking Arena, 1555 E. Woodward Heights.

Off-Ice Conditioning
Summer program for skaters and hockey players--group exercises to work on flexibility, conditioning and balance. Figure skaters will be doing some ballet. Workout clothing, mat and water bottle required. Instructor Cathy Fresia. Held at the Birmingham YMCA.
